AAPD is committed to supporting the well-being of pediatric dentists and building a sustainable workforce that can provide high-quality oral health care to all children. Addressing burnout requires action at every level—from individual providers and practices to health care institutions and professional organizations.

AAPD recognizes the importance of identifying and addressing systemic causes of burnout, expanding evidence-informed resources and training for burnout prevention, and promoting confidential access to mental health and substance use support. Members experiencing burnout or declining well-being are encouraged to seek support, build resilience, and connect with available professional resources.

ADA Well-Being Index: The American Dental Association has opened the Dental Well-Being Index (WBI) to all dentists, students (dental and dental team member students), and dental team members. The WBI is an anonymous, validated, risk assessment invented by Mayo Clinic for healthcare providers and is used by hundreds of healthcare organizations.  AAPD members can use the WBI at no cost and access ADA wellness resources and some state resources.  Access the Dental Well-Being Index here. Additional resources on well-being from the ADA are available here.
