Description

The Program in Pediatric Dentistry is designed to produce strong academically-based pediatric dentists who may choose to pursue a career in either teaching, practice or both. Along with proficiency in the traditional areas, the program offers a strong didactic and clinical orthodontic component to increase the students' skills in this important area. Through the program's affiliation with the UCLA Health Sciences Center, the student will rotate through various areas in the hospital and the Neuropsychiatric Institute in order to gain expertise in the management of sick and handicapped children. At the completion of the program, the students will meet the advanced education eligibility requirements of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry examination.

Curriculum

The didactic core is offered through the facilities of the UCLA School of Dentistry. The core courses are those prescribed by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Rotation through anesthesia is mandatory and offered through the Center for the Health Sciences at UCLA.

Teaching experience will be gained in the second year of the program both at the university and outreach clinics within Los Angeles County.
