Joel H. Berg is a consultant in the dental industry and practices Pediatric Dentistry part time in the Phoenix, AZ area. He is former Dean at the University of Washington. Dr. Berg is a board-certified pediatric dentist and is a Past President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and Past President of the AAPD Foundation. He is the Immediate Past President of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry.
He is an editor of the book Early Childhood Oral Health and has published extensively on subjects including dental restorative materials for children and medical management of dental caries. His current research interests include the development of dental caries prevention programs using risk assessment models to manage dental caries as a disease. He lectures to dental professionals regularly on “Medical Management of Dental Caries”.

Cashion is currently the Chair of the Pediatric Dental Medicaid and CHIP Advisory Committee. He has a private practice in Greensboro, N.C. and also holds a position as adjunct assistant professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cashion served as an At-Large Trustee on the AAPD Board of Trustees and was Parliamentarian of the Board of Trustees. He is a graduate of the AAPD Leadership Institute and the Advanced Leadership Institute at Wharton. He has served as Chair of the Council on Government Affairs and the Chair of the Council on Membership and Membership Services. Cashion was previously the President of the North Carolina Dental Association, The North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Guilford County Dental Society. He is a diplomate of the ABPD, and received his dental degree and pediatric dental training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Jung-Wei Chen earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1996 at the Taipei Medical University School of Dentistry, and received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and her Master’s Degree in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 2000. Dr. Chen also studied at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Health Information Science, where she earned her Master’s (2002) and Doctoral (2007) degrees in Health Informatics. Dr. Chen formerly taught in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Texas’s Dental Branch at Houston, and has been a full-time Associate Professor (2008), Professor (2014), and Program Director at the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry since 2008.
Dr. Chen is a board-certified Diplomat and Board Examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She currently serves as a member of the Council on Scientific Affairs, Sedation and General Anesthesia Committee of American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Education and Public Relations Committee of International Association Paediatric Dentistry. She has served in leadership roles, including President, for the International Association for Dental Research’s Pediatric Oral Health Scientific Group. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International, International College of Dentist, International Association of Dental Traumatology and is the recipient of several national and international awards, scholarships, and grants. In addition to her full-time academic work, she maintains an extramural pediatric dentistry private practice.

Jim Crall received his dental degree, master's degree and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Iowa and is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He was selected to serve as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Dental Health Services Research Scholar at Harvard from 1984-1986 and subsequently obtained masters and doctoral degrees in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. In 1997, Crall was appointed as the first dental scholar-in-residence at the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), which is now the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). He has served on several national panels including the Joint Commission Quality Improvement Task Force; Pew Health Professions Commission Dental Advisory Panel; Milbank-Reforming States Group Pediatric Oral Health Work Group; National Committee on Quality Assurance Pediatric Oral Health Expert Panel (chair); National Governors Association Oral Health Policy Academy Programs, and the Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee for Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry.
Crall was a member of the faculty of the University of Iowa (1979-1985) and University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine (1986-2000) and held appointments as head of the department of pediatric dentistry, associate dean for Program Evaluation and Planning, and director of the department of dentistry at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. From 2000-2003, he served as director of Columbia University's Oral Health Disparities and Policy Center and director of the HRSA/MCHB National Oral Health Policy Center. In 2004, Crall joined the UCLA School of Dentistry as chair of the section of pediatric dentistry, while continuing to direct the National Oral Health Policy Center. He was the AAPD Child Advocate from 1995-2013, served as chair of the AAPD's Council on Government Affairs from 1999-2003, and continues to serves as an ex-officio member of this council. Crall served as project director for the AAPD-Office of Head Start National Dental Home Initiative from 2007-2010. Crall was honored as "Pediatric Dentist of the Year" by the AAPD in 2005 and with the AAPD Distinguished Service Award in 2008. -
Dr. Ignelzi received his D.D.S., Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Ignelzi received his Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from the University of Michigan. Dr. Ignelzi is currently engaged in full time private practice limited to orthodontics and pediatric dentistry in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. From 1995 – 2006, Dr. Ignelzi served as a full time faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Dr. Ignelzi has published over 75 scientific articles, abstracts and book chapters and has made over 185 presentations to national and international audiences on orthodontics and pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Ignelzi is the recipient of the national teaching Charles Craig Award and the AAPD Merle C. Hunter Distinguished Service Award. For two years he served as faculty in the Pediatric Sedation Outside of the Operating Room course designed for pediatric dentists, dental anesthesiologists and physicians sponsored by the Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital. In addition, Dr. Ignelzi helped to develop and taught the AAPD’s Oral Clinical Exam Review Course designed for pediatric dentists and served as Course Director and taught the Comprehensive Review of Pediatric Dentistry for the General Practitioner course. He has served as Chair of the AAPD’s Council on Scientific Affairs, Council on Continuing Education, Scientific Program Committee, New Pediatric Dentist Committee and Task Force on Sedation Education and Sedation Continuing Education.

Dr. Jeff Karp is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He received his dental degree at Temple University School of Dentistry followed by a Master of Science and certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Ohio State University and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Karp is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Jeff is a Consultant to the AAPD Committee on Special Health Care Needs and an Alumnus of Clinical Scholars, a national leadership program supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Dr. Karp is Chair of the Section on Oral Health at the American Academy of Pediatrics. Jeff is an active member of the medical staff at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. His scholarly activities focus on education and team care for the interprofessional oral health workforce along with dental home advocacy for children and youth with special health care needs.

Dr. Lee is the Demeritt Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of North Carolina. She is also a Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr Lee received her MPH and DDS degrees from Columbia University and her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and PhD in Health Policy and Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was also a NIDCR National Research Service Award recipient. She is a board-certified pediatric dentist and an active member of the medical staff at UNC Hospitals and practices in the Dental Faculty Practice in the School of Dentistry.
She has authored over a 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts. She is involved in teaching, clinical practice and research. Her primary research interests are in infant oral health, access to dental care for young children, health literacy and health disparities. Dr Lee is the recipient of numerous teaching and research awards including the 2008 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Jerome Miller "For the Kids" Award. In 2010, she received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers from President Barack Obama. In 2011, Dr. Lee was named the ‘Pediatric Dentist of the Year" by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. -
Dr. Vinod Miriyala ("Vinnie") completed his dental training in India (B.D.S) and United States (D.D.S). He is dual trained in Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health Dentistry with a Master’s degree in Public Health, fellowship training in Pediatric dentistry from Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital of Columbus and Dental Public Health from University of Pittsburgh. He has previously held academic and research positions at various dental colleges and schools in the U.S. In addition to his clinical practice, he is a consultant for many community health centers, public health associations, Head Start centers, local, regional and national health organizations. Dr. Miriyala has previously established and directed the community outreach and dental public health department at University of Detroit Mercy. He was the past Director of Oral Health Services at Lawrence County Family Medical Centers.
Dr. Miriyala is the 2016 recipient of James F. Quilty, Jr. Champions of Oral Health Award in the state of Ohio and also has been recognized by Michigan Oral health Coalition. He was the state co-director for the AAPD-Head Start Dental Home Initiative. Dr. Miriyala is part of the Dental Director’s Leadership team for the community health centers in Ohio and is a member of West Virginia Oral Health Advisory Board for West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Dr. Miriyala routinely lectures on pediatric dentistry and public health issues in dentistry at various study clubs, local, regional and state meetings and educational programs. -
Jim Nickman is currently the Chair of the Committee on Dental Benefit Programs of the Council on Government Affairs. He practices in in the Twin Cities and holds a position as associate clinical professor at The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Nickman is a Past President of the AAPD. He is currently President-Elect of the Minnesota Dental Association and is a Past President of the North Central Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Minneapolis District Dental Society. Nickman is currently also serving as the AAPD Specialty Representative to the ADA Code Maintenance Committee and on the ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure. He is a graduate of the AAPD Leadership Institute and the Advanced Leadership Institute at Wharton. He is a diplomate of the ABPD and received his dental degree and pediatric dental training at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Jessica Roberson received her dental degree at Oregon Health Sciences University and attended the pediatric dental residency program at the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is co-owner of Around the Mountain Pediatric Dentistry serving infants, children and teens throughout Northern Arizona, including Flagstaff. She is actively involved with Flagstaff Medical Center’s Advanced practice professional credentialing committee and has been a volunteer in Arizona’s Mission of Mercy, Northern Arizona University Kiddie Clinic and Give Kids a Smile. In 2021, she will be serving the Arizona state Dental Association (AzDA) as secretary-treasurer. She has served on the AzDA Council on Government Affairs since 2014. Dr. Robertson is Chair of the AAPD Council on Government Affairs and the Public Policy Advocate for the state of Arizona.

Thomas Stark, DDS, COL, graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2002. He completed residencies in pediatric dentistry from Texas A&M Health Science Center (2005) and orofacial pain from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY (2014).
Colonel Stark is an Associate Professor at the Uniformed Service University of the Health Sciences Post Graduate Dental School. He is stationed at Joint Base San Antonio at the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research. Previous assignments include the following: Wiesbaden, Germany; Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany; and Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI; Fort Irwin, CA; and Fort Sam Houston; TX. He has also served as a dental officer in Wiesbaden, Germany, Fort Irwin, CA, Vicenza, Italy; and Fort Sam Houston, TX.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Board of Orofacial Pain, and the American Board of Special Care Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Association of Hospital Dentists.
COL Stark has authored articles and textbook chapters, and he has lectured locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.He has experience as a board examiner for the American Boards of Pediatric Dentistry and Special Care Dentistry.He has served on both military and civilian committees and working groups and is the current Chair of the AAPD Council on Clinical Affairs.

Anupama Rao Tate is an associate professor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She is a faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in the Goldberg Center for Community Pediatric Health at Children’s National Medical Center. She serves as the director of Advocacy and Research. She also is co-director of the District of Columbia Pediatric Oral Health Coalition. She currently serves as At- Large Trustee for the Board of the AAPD. She is currently a member of the Grant Sub-Committee of the AAPD Foundation. She is the Public Policy Advocate for District of Columbia for the AAPD as well. She serves as a member of the Section on Oral Health to the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the Pediatric Review committee of the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
She received her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and her MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Children’s National Medical Center. She is a board-certified pediatric dentist and an active member of the medical staff at Children’s National. She is involved in teaching, clinical practice, research and holds grants in community advocacy.

Casamassimo is the chief policy officer of the Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center. He received his dental degree from Georgetown University in 1974 and a Master of Science and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Iowa in 1976. He has taught at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry (1976-78) and the University of Colorado School of Dentistry (1978-88). He is former editor-in-chief of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and its journal, Pediatric Dentistry, and also past president of AAPD. Casamassimo is past president of the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped and past editor of Journal of Dentistry for the Handicapped and Journal of Dentistry for Children.
He has authored over 400 publications including three books, 31 text chapters and seven monographs in the areas of pediatric dentistry, care of children with special health care needs, and dental education. His research interests include oral health of children with special health care needs, health services research, and oral health disparity. He has obtained grants and contracts from private and public sources totaling over $2 million dollars for research, prevention and care projects.
He is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Dental Association and is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor fraternity, a fellow in AAPD, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a past Secretary of the Ohio Dental Association.

Wright is the director of the AAPD Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center. She holds a master’s degree in communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana and a doctorate in healthcare communication at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She is the author of over 70 publications, including the book, "Tough Questions, Great Answers: Responding to Patient Concerns about Today’s Dentistry," published in three languages.
Wright was president of her own consulting firm, Wright Communications, for 25 years. The firm provided services to a wide variety of health care clients including public relations, crisis management, educational needs assessment, patient relations management, and customized educational programming. She has made more than 500 presentations at dental meetings and has taught at five universities and two dental schools. She has won awards from the American Marketing Association, American Film Festival, and Action for Children’s Television. Conte is the project coordinator for the AAPD Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center. She earned her master’s degree in public health (MPH) from the University of Cincinnati and a bachelor’s degree in community health services from Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio. Conte came to AAPD from Children’s Dental Services, where she served the greater Minnesota school-based care and portable care program for nearly three years, as an integral member coordinating care for children across the state. She is motivated by addressing health equity issues in public health, particularly pediatric oral health disparity.

Isabel Agolini is the Kimpton Policy Fellow of the AAPD Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center. She earned her BA from the University of Chicago where she studied medical anthropology with a focus on mental health research. She is passionate about advancing health care accessibility and equity, especially among children.

Homa Amini is Professor of Pediatric Dentistry-Clinical at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry and an attending dentist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She received her dental degree and a Master’s Degree in public health from the Ohio State University and a Master of Science and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a board certified pediatric dentist and a fellow of the AAPD. She is a past recipient of the AAPD’s Jerome B. Miller "For the Kids" and Lewis A. Kay “Excellence in Education” Awards. She has served on numerous councils including Pre-doctoral Education, Scientific Affairs and Editorial Board of the AAPD. Amini currently serves as Academic Trustee-at-large on the AAPD’s Board of Trustees. Her research interests are infant oral health, health literacy, and child advocacy.

Dr. Tegwyn Brickhouse is Professor and Chair of the Department of Dental Public Health and Policy at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition, she is the Director of VCU's Oral Health Equity Core and the School of Dentistry’s Oral Health Services Research Core. She has served VCU as a faculty member since 2003.
Brickhouse earned her dental degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry and received her pediatric dentistry specialty training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also earned a Ph.D. in Epidemiology at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public health and completed a Dental Public Health residency at the North Carolina Oral Health Section in Raleigh, NC.
Dr. Brickhouse brings a wealth of academic, clinical, research, and policy experience in pediatric dentistry and population oral health to the School of Dentistry. Her work has included numerous federal grants from both the National Institutes of Health and the Health Services Resource Administration. She also serves as children’s oral health policy expert at community, state and national levels. -
Donald Chi is an Associate Professor of Oral Health Sciences at the University of Washington. He is board-certified in pediatric dentistry and dental public health. He completed an AB degree in government (Cornell, 2000), a D.D.S. degree (Washington, 2006), residencies in pediatric dentistry and dental public health (Iowa, 2009), and a Ph.D. in health services research (Iowa, 2009).
Chi’s research focuses on understanding and addressing children’s oral health inequalities. He is the first dentist to be named a William T. Grant Foundation Scholar, which funds his research on how neighborhoods influence teen dental outcomes. He was appointed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry and is a Board Member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), and is Chair of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Council on Scientific Affairs.
He received the 2016 Jerome Miller "For the Kids" Award from the AAPD, the 2017 Distinguished Scientist Award from IADR, and was named Pediatric Dentist of the Year in 2018. He spent the 2016-2017 academic year as a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. Chi teaches public health and devotes his extramural clinical practice to treating children in Alaska Native communities. -

Dr. Amr M. Moursi is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the New York University College of Dentistry and an Attending Dentist at the New York University Langone Medical Center and the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York. Dr. Moursi completed his DDS degree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, a pediatric dentistry residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, then a PhD in Craniofacial Biology from the University of California at San Francisco. He also maintains a private practice in New York City.
For the AAPD, Dr. Moursi currently serves as a Fellow of the Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Dentistry for Children. He is also the Liaison to the American Academy of Pediatrics, and serves as a National Spokesperson. He was also formerly the Academic Trustee on the Board of Trustees and served as the Chair of the AAPD Global Interactions Task Force. In his other service activities, Dr. Moursi serves as an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and as a consultant to both the New York State and New York City Departments of Health. He is a former member of the Examination Committee of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He also served as a Consultant and Pediatric Dentistry Review Committee member for the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
Dr. Moursi’s research focuses on early childhood oral health. He is the author or co-author of over 100 published articles, book chapters and policy briefs. He is also Editor of the textbook "Clinical Cases in Pediatric Dentistry" (Wiley-Blackwell). Dr. Moursi and his department have been featured on such national programs as NBC’s Today Show, ABC’s Good Morning America, CNN Headline News and Inside Edition. He is the host of a monthly show on SiriusXM satellite radio. -
Nowak is professor emeritus of pediatric dentistry and pediatrics in the Colleges of Dentistry and Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He received his BA from Washington and Jefferson College (1957), DMD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine (1961), a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Columbia University, School of Dental and Oral Surgery (1966), and an MA in Special Education from Columbia University Teachers College (1967). Nowak is a retired Captain in the United Sates Navy Dental Corps, having entered the Corps in 1960 and retired in 1997.
Nowak has served as executive director and president, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry; member of the board of trustees and President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry; the Executive Council of the American Society of Dentistry for Children; as president of the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped; and president of the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped.
He has over 150 articles and chapters in professional and lay publications on preventive oral health care, oral health care for infants and young children and children with special health care needs. He is editor of the text, Dentistry for the Handicapped Patient,(CV Mosby Company); the senior editor of the text, Pediatric Dentistry: Infancy Through Adolescence, 65th ed (Elsevier/Saunders Company); Reviewer Practical Reviews in Pediatric Dentistry(Oakstone Medical Publishing); and co-editor The Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry5th ed(American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry).
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Johnson County and the Superintendents Advisory Committee for School Health, Iowa City Community School District. He is a volunteer pediatric dentist at the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic. He has been a member of the City Council, University Heights, Iowa; and treasurer of Slow Food Iowa City. In addition, he is a consultant to a number of manufacturers of oral health products and infant and toddler products.

Anupama Rao Tate is an associate professor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She is a faculty member in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in the Goldberg Center for Community Pediatric Health at Children’s National Medical Center. She serves as the director of Advocacy and Research. She also is co-director of the District of Columbia Pediatric Oral Health Coalition. She currently serves as At- Large Trustee for the Board of the AAPD. She is currently a member of the Grant Sub-Committee of the AAPD Foundation. She is the Public Policy Advocate for District of Columbia for the AAPD as well. She serves as a member of the Section on Oral Health to the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the Pediatric Review committee of the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
She received her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and her MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Children’s National Medical Center. She is a board-certified pediatric dentist and an active member of the medical staff at Children’s National. She is involved in teaching, clinical practice, research and holds grants in community advocacy.
