Listen to the personal story and inspiring words of Kelsey Rahe. Kelsey was supposed to start dental school 2 years ago when she learned of her mother’s suicide. In this podcast, Kelsey shares how she turned her shock, despair, and grief into saving another’s life through donating her bone marrow - on the one year anniversary of her mother’s death. She has become a national spokesperson for the bone marrow registry. Recorded during suicide awareness and prevention month, Kelsey tells us what we can do to follow her lead in wellness, self care and in helping others.  Kelsey is now a 2nd year dental student.

Biography
Kelsey Rahe received her BS in Neurobiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018. Following the loss of her mother to suicide in 2019, she was inspired to donate her bone marrow, raise awareness for bone marrow donation on World News Tonight, and and become an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention. She is currently a second year dental student at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. In addition, she represents the College of Dentistry on UIC’s Mental Health Task Force and is a second time recipient of the Quell Foundation’s Survivor Scholarship. Most recently, she served as a panelist on the system wide University of Illinois Student Mental Health Symposium. In her free time, she enjoys working as a scuba diving instructor, skiing, backpacking, mountain biking, and traveling.
