Speakers

  • Charika Tolliver, Esq.  
    Legal Counsel, Risk & Litigation, Children’s National Medical Center
  • Brenda Shepherd-Vernon, MSW, LICSW-C.  
    Director, Family Services, Children’s National Health System

Ms. Tolliver will provide her expertise and insights regarding risk and litigation in the field of pediatric dentistry.  She will present information on current legal issue, including informed consent, malpractice concerns and other relevant topics that will help prepare pediatric dentists as they treat patients in a variety of practice settings.

Ms. Shepherd-Vernon has over 20 years of experience providing leadership in the field of healthcare and social services.  She will present information on social issues within the pediatric dentistry patient population and the multitude of services and organizations that providers may connect with to aid their patients in receiving optimal care.  

Goals and Objectives

  • Legal issues in pediatric dentistry:  Informed consent, malpractice coverage.
  • Social issues within the pediatric population.
  • Social service organizations that can aid in coordination of care.

Representative residents from each program will present a summary of their research project. Non-presenting residents will have their research presentations displayed throughout the day in the lecture hall.
