Description

Our program is a combination school and hospital based residency program, with clinics in the school and extensive time spent at the hospital. The hospital time includes rotations in anesthesiology and emergency medicine, as well as 3 days per week in the operating room.

Curriculum

The curriculum follows ADA accreditation guidelines with basic science courses, pediatric dental seminars, literature review (classic and current), research, and rotations. Our graduates are competent practitioners capable of passing the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Board Certification exams.

Program Stipend and Tuition

$40,000 per year and no tuition, there is a $5,000 program fee assessed by the school administration.

Facilities

Each resident has a fully equipped operatory in the Pediatric Dental Clinic for their sole use. There is a separate, dedicated sedation suite in the clinic.
There is a new, fully equipped satellite clinic in a pediatric convalescent center that residents work in.
In the Outpatient Surgery Area of Kosair Children’s Hospital residents treat patients in a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to pediatric dental care with highly qualified pediatric anesthesiologists.

Admission Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate a genuine interest in pediatric and special needs patient care. Applicants need to be able to qualify for a Kentucky limited or full dental license.
Foreign trained dentists must have a dental degree from an ADA accredited dental school and TOFEL score.
Application is through the PASS system.

Program Strengths

Louisville is the largest metropolitan center in the state of Kentucky and the 16th largest city in the U.S. It is a major healthcare center with a large and varied patient population. Our residents work in the only exclusively pediatric hospital in the state. The clinical training and curriculum are geared to prepare graduates to be successful clinicians, academicians, or researchers. They are all capable of completing the ABPD Board certification process as well. The faculty is experienced in practice and research.
