The certificate program offers a balance of academic course work and clinical training at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. As residents of the hospital, advanced education students in pediatric dentistry are the house staff for the Department of Dentistry, providing both outpatient and inpatient dental care for a large, diverse population of children served by the hospital. Rotations are provided in anesthesia, pediatrics and sedation. Residents work as part of the hospital’s interdisciplinary teams such as the cleft palate, craniofacial deformities, hemophilia, sickle cell anemia, oncology and newborn intensive care follow-up clinic teams. The program provides didactic work in all aspects of pediatric dentistry and offers an affiliation with the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Dentistry to provide experiences in academic dentistry, clinical care and research.
