Childrens Mercy Hospital/University of Missouri-Kansas City Graduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry Program Length and Number of Positions This is a 24 month certificate program beginning July 1 of each year. Three new positions are offered each year. Description The certificate program offers a balance of academic course work and clinical training at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. As residents of the hospital, advanced education students in pediatric dentistry are the house staff for the Department of Dentistry, providing both outpatient and inpatient dental care for a large, diverse population of children served by the hospital. Rotations are provided in anesthesia, pediatrics and sedation. Residents work as part of the hospital’s interdisciplinary teams such as the cleft palate, craniofacial deformities, hemophilia, sickle cell anemia, oncology and newborn intensive care follow-up clinic teams. The program provides didactic work in all aspects of pediatric dentistry and offers an affiliation with the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Dentistry to provide experiences in academic dentistry, clinical care and research. The program has been planned in accordance with the guidelines for postdoctoral education of the ADA Council on Dental Education. Upon completion of the program, the student receives a Certificate of Hospital Residency and meets the eligibility requirements for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry examination. Program Stipend and Tuition First-year stipend for 2008-2009 is $46,900 plus fringe benefits. Second-year stipend for 2008-2009 is $49,000 plus fringe benefits. There is no tuition for the program in either year Facilities The clinical portion of the program is conducted in the Outpatient Clinic portion of the Children’s Mercy Hospital. The clinic is staffed by 5 full-time dental assistants, 1 hygienist, 2 patient access representatives and 1 nurse coordinator. The clinic facility includes 5 fully-equipped dental operatories. Patient care is also delivered in the operating room at least one day per week. Admission Requirements • Documentation of D.D.S. or D.M.D. from an accredited North American Dental School with eligibility for licensure in the State of Missouri
