Contrary to popular opinion, dentists don’t really despise this holiday.
“We just want kids to be kids, and part of a kid’s life is treats,” said AAPD President Dr. Rhea M. Haugseth. Virginia Brown interviewed both Haugseth and President Elect Dr. Joel H. Berg about candy indulgence and its respective effect on pearly whites. A safe treat to give away include toothbrushes, and surprisingly the kids may enjoy it.

"The kids think I'm a nerd, but after a full night of collecting candy, they may think it's cool to get something different," says Dr. Joel H. Berg.

Avoid the suckers. The sugar from the suckers remain the longest in the mouth and can increase decay risk.
