This February, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) is celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month by hosting the Tournament of Tooth Care, showcasing how parents and caregivers can help their kids fend off the Mouth Monsters –a.k.a. tooth decay. An online story by the Associated Press on Jan. 25, reports that three out of four children covered by Medicaid in four states (California, Indiana, Louisiana and Maryland) didn’t receive all required dental care over a recent two-year period, according to a report from the Health and Human Services inspector general’s office. As Congressional negotiations on the FY 2016 federal budget continued through-out the fall of 2015, the AAPD, ADA, ADEA, and AADR sent a joint letter to Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee chairs and ranking minority members reminding them of the dental community’s funding requests, including $10 million for Title VII pediatric dentistry.
