New report by leading dental associations also shows dental sealants are more effective than other treatments in reducing and preventing childhood cavities.
The Treasury Department and IRS released on July 8, 2016 proposed regulations relating to premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act. This included a rule clarifying the inclusion of subsidies for stand-alone pediatric dental plans, as part of the premium tax credit, for plans purchased in a Health Insurance Exchange.
On July 11, 2016 Catherine Saint Louis with The New York Times did a story titled, “A Cavity-Fighting Liquid Lets Kids Avoid Dentists’ Drills.”
Dr. Stephen Wilson, AAPD’s co-lead author of new sedation guidelines, was interviewed by for a story titled, “New Sedation Guidelines Emphasize Patient Safety,” published on June 30. 
The Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee approved a FY2017 funding bill on June 7, followed by full Appropriations Committee passage on June 9, 2016 by a 29-1 vote.
The Connecticut State Budget passed during the 2016 legislative session resulted in a 5% across the board reduction in children’s dental Medicaid reimbursement rates.
