The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) is partnering with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in providing a free 90-minute webinar “Compliance for the Medicaid Dental Professional” on December 12. No registration is required. Simply call in the number below, enter the meeting ID number and click the link to receive the video portion (slide presentation) of the webinar. Completion of a short survey will be required to submit and earn the CE.

The AAPD's database is being upgraded from 11 p.m.-6 a.m. Central Time. During the upgrade, the following features of the site will be unavailable: online store, member profile update, and event registration. Annual Session registration is hosted separately and still available.
 
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is accepting applications for the Samuel D. Harris Health Research and Policy Fellowship sponsored by Preventech. Pediatric dental residents and individuals in their first five years post-residency (academic or private practice) are eligible to apply.

Registration for the 2013 AAPD Public Policy/ Lobby Days conference in Washington, D.C. will close on January 16! The dates of the program are March 12-13, 2013. We will begin with a public policy briefing session on Tuesday, March 12, highlighted by a lunch presentation from guest speaker Gloria Borger, CNN’s chief political analyst. Borger will present “The Insider’s View from Washington.”

Simply visit this site and provide your last name and the zip code you used to register for the Annual Session. You'll be asked to select the courses you attended and to complete a brief survey on each course. Finally, there's an evaluation about Annual Session overall.

Today a study was released and published in CANCER, that associates yearly or more frequent dental X-rays to an increased risk of developing meningioma, the most commonly diagnosed brain tumor. Similar to the ADA, AAPD’s long-standing position is that dentists should order dental X-rays for patients only when necessary for diagnosis and treatment.
 
In February 2011, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Dental Association (ADA) presented joint written comments to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS).
 
On Aug. 30, 2010, the AAPD and the ADA filed joint comments with the Cen­ters for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) concerning quality of care.
 
President Obama signed into law on Aug. 10, 2010, a measure that includes an extension to the increase in the federal medi­cal assistance percentage (FMAP) for state Medicaid programs.
 
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry is pleased to announce the states that will launch the Head Start Dental Home Initiative in the 2010-2011 contract year. The goal of the initiative is the development of a national network of dentists to provide dental homes for Head Start children. Initiative activities are not limited to states that have launched; activities in support of Initiative goals are underway across the country.
 
Vermont recently became the 32nd state to pass a mandatory general anesthesia coverage law, thanks especially to the efforts of pediatric dentist Dr. George "Spin" Richardson and Rep. Steve Maier and Sen. Jane Kitchel.
 
The AAPD, as part of the Organized Dentistry Coalition, recently wrote Congress in support of legislation that would repeal an onerous tax reporting requirement contained in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
