Requirements for AAPD Membership

Active Qualifications
Applicant must meet all requirements.

  1. Member of the American or National Dental Association, or a foreign equivalent.
  2. Meets the educational requirements of the ADA for the announcement of ethical practice in Pediatric Dentistry.
  3. Submits a copy of the certificate or degree in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry from an accredited program.

Active Application Procedure

  1. Complete the formal application and send it with an application fee of $100 (U.S. currency; not refundable) to the Headquarters Office.
  2. Submit a copy of a certificate or degree in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry from an accredited program.
  3. List two Academy members as references on the application form.
  4. Applicant is responsible for the current annual dues apportioned by the number of months remaining in the billing year from the date of acceptance of membership.

Associate Qualifications
Applicant must meet one of the four requirements.

  1. Member or former member of the Academy, exclusive of Student Members, who no longer participate in ethically announced practice, education, or research in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry.
  2. Dentists who are Diplomates of, or Board eligible in, one of the other specialty areas of dentistry recognized by the ADA who have a demonstrable interest in Pediatric Dentistry.
  3. Dentists who practice outside the United States and its territories, whose practice is primarily in the area of Pediatric Dentistry and who meet the requirements listed in Active 1 and 4 above.
  4. Individual whose primary concern and activity is in an area of education or research specifically related to Pediatric Dentistry. Such individuals who are dentists shall meet the requirements listed in Active 1 and 4 above.

Associate Application Procedure

  1. Complete the formal application and send it with an application fee of $50 (U.S. currency; not refundable) to the Headquarters Office.
  2. List two professional colleagues as references on the application form.
  3. Applicant is responsible for the current annual dues apportioned by the number of months remaining in the billing year from the date of acceptance of membership.

International
Applicant must meet all requirements.

  1. Meets all requirements established for Active Membership as listed above.
  2. Dentists who practice, teach or do research outside of the United States and its territories with the exception of those pediatric dentists in the Federal Services.

International Application Procedure

  1. Complete the formal application and send it with an application fee of $50 (U.S. currency; not refundable) to the Headquarters Office.
  2. Submit a copy of a certificate or degree in the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry from an accredited program.
  3. List two professional colleagues as references on the application form.
  4. Applicant is responsible for the current annual dues apportioned by the number of months remaining in the billing year from the date of acceptance of membership.

Affiliate Qualifications

  1. Dentists who are not pediatric dentists or any of the other specialties recognized by the ADA or
  2. All other individuals whose interests are consistent with the mission of the Academy.

Affiliate Application Procedure

  1. Complete the formal application and send it with an application fee of $50 (U.S. currency; not refundable) to the Headquarters Office.
  2. List two professional colleagues as references on the application form.
  3. Applicant is responsible for the current annual dues apportioned by the number of months remaining in the billing year from the date of acceptance of membership.

Student Qualifications

  1. Enrolled in a full or part time postdoctoral educational program in pediatric dentistry approved by the Council on Dental Education and Licensure of the American Dental Association.

Student Application Procedure

  1. Complete the formal application.
