The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) created a Task Force on Workforce Issues in 2008 to examine mid-level dental provider models. The task force was chaired by past AAPD President Dr. H. Pitts Hinson (Franklin, Tenn.) Based on the work of that group, the AAPD is pleased to release the document "Analysis and Policy Recommendations Concerning Mid-level Dental Providers." Although a collaborative effort, the special contributions of AAPD Child Advocate Dr. James J. Crall in the development of this document are acknowledged. The document is intended to assist policymakers in determining the potential impact of such providers on access to oral health care for children.
