A district organization recognized by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry

American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry

About Us

District IV encompasses the northcentral states and provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois, Wisconsin. Both the leadership and membership usually have two meetings per year; one in November in Chicago and one during the AAPD Annual Session.

Our current district president is Larry Lang of Iowa and our trustee representing us on the AAPD Board of Trustees is Kevin Hale of Michigan.

A Brief History of the NorthCentral Society of Pediatric Dentistry

The history of the NorthCentral Society of Pediatric Dentistry began immediately before the 1986 Annual Session of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. A committee was formed to establish boundaries for the new AAPD districts. Dr. Keith Roberts, of Indiana, represented our region on the committee. Keith would later become a trustee of District IV. District IV would later spawn the NorthCentral Society.

On January 23,1987, state representatives met in Chicago to organize District IV. In 1989, Dr. Paul Walker, of Minnesota, became the district’s first trustee. During his term, Paul worked on having the states and provinces within the district become components of the AAPD. By the time he left office, all ten states and one Canadian province had become components.

In 1998, the Academy asked that each of its six districts establish a district organization. Dr. Cliff Hartmann, of Wisconsin, was then serving as District IV trustee. Cliff banded together the components of District IV to become the NorthCentral Society of Pediatric Dentistry. The first Annual Session of the Society was held on November 5, 1999 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Today, the NorthCentral Society of Pediatric Dentistry works hand-in-hand with the Academy to select nominees for AAPD councils and committees. The Society also supports continuing education in pediatric dentistry while continuing to develop fellowship and cooperation within our organization.
