Congressional Letters of Support for the AAPD-Head Start Dental Home Initiative
Several members of Congress have expressed concern about the Office of Head Start's decision to not exercise the remaining option years of the AAPD's contract to operate the Dental Home Initiative. Representative Mike Simpson (R-2nd Idaho) wrote to the Head Start Administrator expressing strong support for the AAPD-Head Start collaboration and disappointment with the decision to end this relationship. Simpson, recently re-elected to his seventh term in Congress, is a general dentist and member of the House Appropriations Committee. Click here for a copy of the letter.
In addition to the letter from Simpson, Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-3rd N.C.) wrote the agency expressing similar concerns. According to Jones, "I understand from conversations with my constituents that AAPD's involvement is essential to the success of the peer-to-peer approach in recruiting new providers to provide much needed dental homes to Head Start children.
