1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Miniclinics Session I
1 p.m. - 25 Things That Have Changed the Way I Practice - William F. Waggoner, D.D.S., M.S.
Over the years, I have found some things that significantly improve the process by which I do dentistry or the results I get. Some things are inexpensive, costing little to nothing to implement, while others carry a larger price tag but yield results surpassing their costs. This presentation shares 25 things that have made some of my clinical procedures more simple or my practice more productive.
1:40 p.m. - Photobiostimulating Lasers: A New Way to Treat Pediatric Trauma - Lawrence A. Kotlow, D.D.S.
Photobiostimulating lasers allow the body to repair trauma, reduce swelling and speed healing as well as many other uses, all without the need for any pharmaceutical intervention. Available for years in many countries, it is now just becoming of interest in the USA.
2:20 p.m. - The Hall Technique: Leaving Caries under S.S. Crowns - Thomas M. Beckman, D.D.S.
The Hall Technique is a simplified method for managing carious primary molars where a preformed SS crown is cemented over the tooth with a glass-ionomer cement. There is no need for anesthesia, no tooth reduction and no caries removal. The technique aims to arrest caries by hermetically sealing dental caries into the tooth. In Scotland, the outcomes from a randomized controlled clinical trial show results superior to conventional fillings by UK general dentists. This presentation will describe the technique, research, advantages, and concerns while challenging our traditional thinking about the management of caries.
3 p.m. - Performance Management of the Pediatric Dental Office Team - Steven E. Krauss, D.D.S.
Performance management is the process of ensuring that organizational strategic goals are consistently being met effectively and efficiently. We will discuss methods of monitoring and managing staff behavior and activities to minimize expense while maximizing performance, productivity and profit (the three Ps of success).
3:40 p.m. - Management of Oblique Crown - Root Fracture - Vajahat Yar Khan, B.D.S., M.S., G.P.R.
4:20 p.m. - The Morbidity Pyramids of Early Childhood Caries - Sarat Thikkurissy, D.D.S.
This presentation will cover what few know exists-the myriad of social, behavioral, financial, and health consequences of early childhood caries. Like trauma and childhood illness, dental caries in very young children carries with it a significant impact best viewed as a morbidity and mortality pyramid. You'll be surprised to learn the consequences of ECC, a condition ignored by CDC for 30 years!
