JOINT ACADEMIC DAY
As an adjunct to the 62nd Annual Session, the AAPD will be offering the third annual Joint Academic Day to be held on May 20, 2009. This is an opportunity for predoctoral and postdoctoral educators to gather for a shared morning program. Scheduled to be included in the morning portion of the program is a discussion of distance learning technologies; systems requirements and infrastructure, types of software programs and examples of successes.
Following the morning discussion, the Societies of Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Program Directors will each meet beginning with lunch and discuss topics specific to predoctoral and postdoctoral education.
Please plan your travel to arrive in Honolulu on May 19, 2009, so you may attend this program.

NEW DENTIST PROGRAM: THE PERFECT STORM - RIDE THE WAVES OR SURRENDER TO THE UNDERTOW? - Ann M. Bynum, D.D.S., B.A.
It's a whole new world out there. This means you most likely aren't the only show in town. Patients a have choice where they want their child to have dental care. Would they pick your office? Why or why not? This session will focus on the things you can do today, next month and next year to assure that you carve a niche for your dental practice.
The goal of this course is to:
- Discuss interviewing, hiring and training team members.
- Express the importance of setting daily, monthly and yearly practice, professional and personal goals.
- Give marketing ideas that range from free to expensive, internal to external.
- Relay ideas to new doctors to motivate and stimulate team performance.
- Define extreme customer service.
- Provide tangible real life ideas to new pediatric dentists to create a foundation for future success.
Dr. Ann M. Bynum is originally from Ocala, Fla. She moved to Greenville, S.C., in 1997 and opened her practice in Simpsonville. She has three children of her own and understands and appreciates the art of pediatric dentistry and parenting! Bynum is a Diplomate of the ABPD, a member of the SSPD, the AAPD, and the ADA. She has written numerous articles on customer service, marketing and teamwork over the years for different publications.
11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
GRADUATE STUDENT LUNCH & LEARN
Graduate students will have a unique opportunity to have lunch with prominent individuals in the specialty. Guest experts in the areas of clinical studies, private practice, and academics/research will be assigned tables for the luncheon. The experts will be available to visit with and answer questions from graduate students about career choices relative to their area.

This luncheon will cost $20 during registration but this fee is refundable on site upon your attendance at the luncheon.
