62nd Annual Session Sets AAPD Attendance Record

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's (AAPD) 62nd Annual Session at the Hawaii Convention Center from May 21-24, 2009, broke the all time attendance record for a meeting in the AAPD's history.

The session was expected to draw an international attendance of 2,500 participants, but instead recorded final attendance numbers at 4,838.

AAPD officials attribute Hawaii as a reason for it.

"This year's AAPD session is one of our largest ever, most likely a result of Hawaii being the host state," explained Dr. Beverly A. Largent, immediate past president of the AAPD. "Many of the attendees brought in their families and dental staff with them taking advantage of what Hawaii has to offer."

"We are extremely pleased that the AAPD had such a successful meeting," said Joe Davis, SMG general manager of the Hawaii Convention Center. "They were a great group to work with and we look forward to possibly hosting them again in the near future."
