While brushing may not be the ultimate favorite thing for a kid to do, Dr. Edward Moody shares a few fun tips with iVillage.com for parents and caregivers to make brushing fun. To maintain your child’s teeth healthy and cavity free, you can start by following one of the fun tips and take advantage of those natural copycat tendencies.
"Let your child see you and his or her older siblings brushing every day," says Edward H. Moody Jr., DDS, vice president of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. While your little guy is watching you scrub your pearlies, use exaggerated brush strokes and show lots of enthusiasm. After all, our kids want to be like us, and when they see that we're taking care of our teeth "it encourages them to do the same," says Moody. To continue the fun, you can even have your child brush your teeth after your brush hers.
If your child is not interested in brushing or giving you a hard time, then reward her. Make brushing fun and buy a toothbrush with lights that flash or extend their time in playing a Wii game and suggest to brush for two minutes.
