AAPD Website 2.0

Have you visited the new http://www.aapd.org yet? The upgraded site launched earlier this week. The previous incarnation of http://www.aapd.org has been in service since 2002. AAPD staff and AmericanEagle.com worked hard to update and redesign the site with an all new look and feel and upgraded functionality.

Here are some new features you can look forward to:

Enhanced Navigation - We’ve reorganized the AAPD website to group similar pages into fewer, clearer categories for easier navigation of the site.

Central Placement of Find a Pediatric Dentist - Consistently one of the most popular features of the AAPD site, the new design allows users to search for pediatric dentists directly from the homepage with no additional navigation.

Enhanced Search Functions - The new site search feature will pull results by category and will feature an improved index for better results.

Mobile Site for Smartphones - This special slimmed-down version of the site will allow smartphone users quick access to the most-used features of the site to reduce tedious scrolling in small-sized phone browsers.

Additionally, issues of Pediatric Dentistry Today are now available online at http://www.pediatricdentistrytoday.org.

AAPD Launches New Site for Parents and Caregivers: MyChildrensTeeth.Org

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the recognized leader in children's oral health, announced today the launch of its new consumer-based website, http://www.mychildrensteeth.org. A comprehensive resource for parents and caregivers, MyChildrensTeeth.org gathers together all of the AAPD's articles and information that are useful to the general public in one convenient place.

Some of parents' most frequently asked questions of pediatric dentists are answered on the site, such as:

  • When should I take my child to the dentist for the first check-up?
  • What should I use to clean my baby's teeth?
  • Are baby teeth really that important to my child?
  • How do dental sealants work?
  • How safe are dental X-rays?

The AAPD launched the new site in order to meet the growing need for high quality, evidence-based dental information that gives the most up-to-date information on children's oral health directly to consumers. AAPD CEO Dr. John S. Rutkauskas said, "One of the primary challenges in dentistry is keeping parents fully informed on good oral health practices, so they can lay down a foundation of oral health that their children can follow all their lives.

Over 5,000 Attendees Registered for this Year's Annual Session

Already registered? Great, check out these exciting features at the Annual Session! There's still time to register now for the 65th Annual Session, May 24-27 in San Diego!

Conference App. New this year and with the 2012 Annual Session fast approaching, we are very excited about our mobile conference app. The app takes everything you need to know about the Annual Session and puts it directly onto your mobile device. You can start preparing early by viewing speaker bios and building your personal itinerary ahead of time. To download the app for Apple or Android, open this web site: http://ativ.me/aapd2012 and then enter the short URLs or your device's QR reader to begin downloading the app. Or, simply search for AAPD 2012 in the Android Market or Apple App Store / iTunes.

CE Certificates and Online Evaluations. AAPD will provide CE certificates for dentists attending the meeting and certificates of attendance. After completing the online session and overall evaluations you will be prompted to email the certificate and once at home you can print or save it to your computer. All session evaluations will be online and will track which sessions you attended. Be sure to complete the evaluations online either at registration or once you get home so you can claim the CE hours you attended.

Electronic Handouts. AAPD is offering electronic handouts of all the presentations we've received from the speakers. Please plan to print the handouts and bring them with you. At the meeting, a CD-ROM with all the handouts will be distributed and a link is provided with additional handouts we receive from the speakers even after the meeting. New this year, the presentations are available in the conference app; and you can take notes in the app and email them too!

Online Guide to Exhibitors. Not sure how to navigate the Exhibit Hall at the Annual Session? Plan your trip now by reviewing who is going to be there. This interactive tool allows you to view each company, a description of their products/services OR search for a particular category to see which companies can help you. Make your selections and print a reminder of who you plan to see in the exhibit hall during the AAPD 65th Annual Session. Click here to access the Guide to Exhibitors.

Charging Stations. Does your phone or PDA not make it through a busy day of calls, text messages or e-mails? Bring your charger to the meeting and bring it to a charging station located near the Exhibit Hall so you can stay connected throughout the meeting!

ePoster Gallery. AAPD Research Posters are going virtual this year! Authors who upload their poster online have the opportunity to share that poster with a much broader audience during and after the 65th Annual Session. Please take a look at some of the interesting research being conducted this year. The Gallery will be available on the CD-ROM that is included with Annual Session registration as well as online on the AAPD website after the meeting. You can also view the abstracts on the AAPD Conference App!
